CHANGE IN MAJOR OR MINOR
Students who wish to change their major or add a minor may do so provided that they will graduate within normative time to degree (defined as graduating by Spring/Summer of your 4th year, if you were admitted as a first year student, or by Fall of your 3rd year, if you were admitted as a transfer student).
Students must be in good academic standing, eligible to be admitted to the major or minor, and able to complete all degree requirements within normative time to degree.
Students who meet all eligibility requirements above should contact their departmental advisor to add them into the major or minor if they are eligible to be admitted and have fewer than 150 units completed. The department may refer students back to the College if they determine that a student may not be able to complete all requirements on time. If a student has completed over 150 completed units, the department will submit a request to the College on behalf of the student.
Students who will need additional time to complete all requirements should submit a request via a Time to Degree Petition.
- Students should fill out the Degree Plan Contract and Program Change petition, and meet with the department to verify your remaining major and/or minor requirements. The department will need to sign off on both forms.
- Students should then submit both forms in a Time to Degree Petition to their College advising unit. Please note that approval is not guaranteed. Since you are requesting an exception, we strongly encourage you to write a thorough explanation of your request (up to 2500 characters, or approximately 2 double spaced pages) and provide any documentation that will support your request.
