TRANSFERRING CREDIT
If you have taken coursework elsewhere and would like to apply those courses to your UCLA degree requirements, the courses must be transferrable, and you must have official transcripts sent to Undergraduate Admission .
If you wish to apply your coursework to preparation, major or minor requirements, please consult your major or minor department.

Taking Coursework as a New Student
Prior to your start at UCLA and articulation of your transfer coursework, please do not complete any coursework that is similar in content to coursework for which you have already earned credit.
Taking College Requirements Outside of UCLA
If you would like coursework to apply towards College or University requirements (e.g., General Education, foreign language, Writing I or II, etc.) you may submit a Transfer Course Credit Petition to the College once the coursework has been posted to your DAR. You may submit an advisory petition if you would like to know whether a course would be approved before taking it; approvals are provisional and contingent upon courses being deemed transferrable by Admissions.
If you plan to fulfill College or University requirements at a community college in the area, please check here for agreements UCLA has with local community colleges.
If you would like to transfer credit to satisfy any major requirements including prep coursework, please see your major department.
UCLA Extension
Students can take classes through UCLA Extension to complete requirements. However certain considerations must be taken into account:
- Students may not be concurrently enrolled in UCLA and UCLA Extension during a regular quarter. Click here for more information on the concurrent enrollment policy
- If you intend to complete your degree requirements as a nonregistered student (complete your degree by taking up to 10 of your final 45 units through UCLA Extension or at another institution), you should file a request to graduate In Absentia. Click here for more information on Graduating in Absentia
UCEAP
All UCEAP courses are guaranteed to transfer to UCLA, but if you wish to apply this coursework to preparation, major or minor requirements, please consult your major or minor department.
If you would like coursework taken abroad to count toward College or University requirements (e.g., General Education, foreign language, Writing I or II, etc.) you may submit a Transfer Course Credit Petition to the College once the coursework has been posted to your DPR. You may submit an advisory petition if you would like to know whether a course would be approved before taking it; approvals are provisional and contingent upon courses being deemed transferrable by Admissions.
Due to limited staffing the College does not have the resources to review excessive petition requests. Thus, we ask that students be intentional and only submit a petition for a course that they are seriously considering or are able to enroll in. If you would like guidance in narrowing down your submissions, we strongly encourage students to consult with an academic advisor in their College advising unit prior to submitting their petition(s). Students are limited to 5 submissions in a 30 day period.
